- On average, 140–150 mcg of venom is delivered in a stinging event
- Median lethal dose (LD50) of bee venom varies between 2.8 and 3.5 mg of venom per kg of human body weight
- Can thus be speculated that a non-allergic person weighing 60–70 kg has a 50% chance of death upon being stung by 1,000–1,500 bees
- Deaths caused by only 200–500 stings have also been reported
- Severity of the envenoming is determined by victim age, body weight, number of stings, and individual characteristics of the victim (immune status, comorbidities, and previous sensitization)
