• NiV is relatively stable
• Can survive for up to 3 days in some fruit juices or fruits at local environmental temperatures
• Can remain infectious for at least 7 days in date palm sap kept at 22°C
• Half-life of 18 hours in the urine of fruit bats
• Viable at 70°C for one hour (only the viral concentration decreases)
• Can be completely inactivated by heating at 100°C for more than 15 minutes
• Enveloped nature - can be inactivated by
• Soaps,
• Detergents
• Sodium hypochlorite (10 000 ppm)
• Ultraviolet-C and medium-base lights
• Found to be an effective way to reduce NiV infectivity in serum and plasma
• With the combination of heating
