• Many African countries who are still battling poverty, food insecurity, undernutrition, and infectious diseases including the HIV/AIDS epidemic
• Currently faced with increasing levels of overweight and obesity
• = coexistence of undernutrition and overnutrition with their attendant ramifications
• Emerging obesity phenomenon in Africa
• Transformation of the range of goods sold in the village shops
• Prominent among these are large yellow plastic containers of imported vegetable oils !!!
• Throughout Africa these oil containers are recycled as water carriers
• Have completely displaced the metal kerosene drums
• Vivid visual picture of this one key component of the nutrition transition.
